This is a hard post to write. Our family dog, Rusty passed away today. He had been struggling for about a week with problems and after many attempts to help, we had to put him down today. It was obvious to us he was suffering and we didn't want him to go through that anymore.
He was 6 years old and was such a great dog. From the time he was a puppy he was so full of spunk and loved everyone who came to see HIM. They never came to visit any of us, they always came to see Rusty. Or at least that was his opinion. He was such a cute puppy. When he was small he had the cutest little ears. Then, as he got bigger, one would stick straight up in the air and the other one would be down. Eventually, both ears were standing at attention and the only time they would go down was if he knew he was in trouble. His absolute favorite thing was to swim in the pool. He LOVED it and if we left him in the house while we were taking a dip, he would howl and cry till we came back in. Whenever he saw us getting in our suits, he would start running around and getting excited. He loved to play. The thing he loved to do was run laps around the house. He would run from one room to another with that cute growl that said, I know I'm fast, and just try to catch me! He was one who always wanted to eat. If it was getting a little too close to dinner time, he would definitely let you know it was time. We would feed him at 5 p.m. everyday and sometimes he would start telling us at 3 that dinner should be ready now.
Rusty was a great dog and friend. He loved to sit in laps or just lay by your feet and let you know he was there. The way he always showed affection was to give kisses (lick). If he got anywhere near your face, he would lick and lick until you thought you had no skin left. If he couldn't get to your face, he would lick your hands or your feet, or in my Dad's case, Rusty loved his ears! He was so loving and enjoyed a good cuddle.
He will be missed so much. The house feels empty now and there is a Rusty-sized hole that will not be filled again. We love you Rusty! Thank you for your love and affection for everyone you met. We will never forget you and will treasure the years we had together.
My sister Jody had a great way of putting it into words . . . "Losing a pet is always so hard. Its so crazy how much they become a part of our lives and family. Its so great that God knows just what we need. He shows himself to us in his creation by creating an animal that he knew would be just perfect to have in our lives. An animal that can bring us so much joy, companionship and be able to meet so many needs. But its hurts when we have to say goodbye." Thank you Jody!

That is so sad...we will be praying for you. It is hard to say good bye to a wonderful pet...sigh
